Plasma osteopontin levels are associated with the presence and extent of coronary artery disease

Recently, osteopontin (OPN) mRNA was reported to be highly expressed in atherosclerotic
plaques, most strikingly in calcified plaques. We examined if plasma OPN levels are
associated with coronary stenosis and calcification in patients with coronary artery disease
(CAD). We measured plasma OPN levels in 178 patients undergoing coronary angiography.
Compared with 71 patients without CAD, 107 with CAD had higher OPN levels
